How many of you find the atypical “8 to 5” way too confining?

I’m one of you. In fact, I’m probably the leader of this pack. I can’t say I’m particularly a morning person or an evening person, as my pattern changes every day. But, one thing I have always known is, lining up at the starting gate for another morning rush to my cubicle was not for me. 

 Sometimes, my best work is brought about after five o’clock and before dawn.   However, in the everyday “work force”, more often than not, this is not an acceptable claim to employers.

 Let’s face it.  We’re not all gifted for daytime consciousness.  The height of our productivity does not always awaken with the morning’s sunrise.  This is especially true when you are a creative writer.

 Staying away from “conventional” work hours is something I’ve tried to get around for much of my adult life.  I always looked for that career that offered flexibility and plenty of money. 

 What I found was that, in order to compensate my own desires, I either have to find an employer with that same attitude or I had to be my own boss, set my own hours and make a good living doing it. 

 If you think having flexibility and money is impossible, I’ve got some real good news for you! I’m happy to say that I have found the perfect job, publishing an e-Zine that people love to read.

 Working as a writer for a national publishing firm, I had daily contact with our readers. I learned what they wanted to know more about, such as focused articles about people and places, news without all the “bad” in it and reports about upcoming events.  So, that’s what we set out to do, tell everyone all about the comforts of calling Topsail home.

 That’s just what we did.  We created www.topsail-island.info with everyone in mind.  Since then, we’ve heard from folks all over the world that now know more about Topsail Island than ever and they keep coming back for more.

 I’d like to tell you that it’s been a piece of cake but in all honesty, I can’t.  During the initial designing and planning stages, we faced many challenges.  We also made mistakes, sometimes costly ones to be sure.  Because we were learning as we went along, we suffered a few setbacks, too. 

 Those days are over.  Our website, www.topsail-island.info, is doing better than we ever expected.  We’re growing every day in readership.
